MOTET is marking the 10th anniversary of their first concert by presenting a programme for the Feast of the Chair of St Peter. On this day, they will celebrate the role of St Peter and his successors as the “Vicar of Christ” to the Church on earth. Their concert features music drawn from the First Vespers and Mass liturgies of the feast, including works by English polyphonic master William Byrd, French perfectionist Maurice Duruflé, and their respective contemporaries. There will be two organ solos: Messiaen’s “Apparition de l’église éternelle” performed by MOTET’s director, David Poon, and Mulet’s “Tu es Petra”, played by Michael Molnar.
MOTET is a Vancouver-based chamber ensemble comprised of young musicians passionate about bringing sacred choral music to audiences throughout the region. MOTET draws music from the vast treasury of the Catholic tradition into reverently beautiful concerts and liturgies.
