Join RCCO Vancouver Centre and Victoria Centre in a special Zoom workshop with Dr. Marnie Giesbrecht (Professor Emerita and University Organist at the University of Alberta; Duo Majoya).
This workshop has been made possible thanks to the RCCO’s Travelling Clinician programme.
The topic of the workshop is “Creative Programming: bringing the pipe organ to new audiences; bringing new audiences to the pipe organ.” Dr. Giesbrecht will talk about her years of experience playing and commissioning works for organ and piano, organ and other instruments, organ duets, and planning exciting concert programs.

Celebrate International Organ Day with RCCO Vancouver!
Join other organists and organ enthusiasts in visiting two churches in Vancouver. Here’s the itinerary:
- 10:30 am-12:30 pm: Holy Family Parish, 4851 Beatrice St.
- 12:30-1:30 pm: Lunch break (lunch is not provided)
- 1:30-3:30 pm: St. Andrew’s-Wesley, 1022 Nelson St.
An Orgelkit and Viscount Cantorum Duo will also be shown at St. Andrew’s-Wesley. Participation is free. Join for all or part of the day, and invite your friends! There will be opportunities to try each organ, and organ technician Marianne Huestis will give tours of the organ lofts.
Friday, April 29, 7pm – 9pm, and Saturday, April 30, 11am – 1pm, come and witness a virtual midi link being created between a Vancouver organ and Perth, Australia!
In the spirit of the success and theme of last Saturday’s international Organ Day, Vancouver Centre’s vice president Michael Dirk will host a virtual organ link up to Perth, Australia, this Friday and Saturday, culminating with performing on the 109-stop organ of St Patrick Basilica at a future date. https://fremantlestpatricks.org.au/basilica-organs-specifications/
Doors will be open to the public at St. John’s Shaughnessy Anglican Church this Friday April 29th 6-8pm, and Saturday April 30th 10am-noon (see detailed schedule below), while we link up and experiment with Australian correspondent Matt Bray’s digital studio. (The link up with St Patrick’s will be at a later date once we confirm the midi link success). SSOS technician Steve Miller of Calgary will be coordinating the Midi capability of the SJS Hallman.
This initiative is funded by a Canada Arts Council grant, and spearheaded by BC interior organist/composer Gilles Parenteau.

RCCO Vancouver Centre has arranged a masterclass with Pacific Baroque Orchestra’s Alexander Weimann, who is an accomplished organist and harpsichordist living and working in Vancouver. He has a highly regarded career as both a soloist and conductor across North America. Vancouver organists Rachel Alflatt, Frank Ezinga, Isaac Howie, Cindy Ma, Susan Ohannesian, and Angelique Po will be performing an assortment of works on St. Mary’s beautiful 3-manual Casavant organ (Opus 2296), including the concert première of Denis Bédard’s Deux Pièces.
