Hidden gems from the Renaissance and Baroque eras including rarely played works by Bach, the premiere of a new composition by Denis Bedard, and works by 20th century French composers, performed by the Cathedral’s own organist. The recital will be projected on a giant screen at the front of the church, allowing the audience to watch the performance.
Denis Bedard graduated from the Quebec Conservatory of Music with first class honours, continued his studies in Montreal, Paris and Amsterdam, and was laureate of the “Prix d’Europe” in 1975 and of the CBC Radio Talent Competition in 1978. A very active concert artist, he has given recitals across Canada, in the United States, in France and in Brazil. He also pursues an international career as a composer. He has written over a hundred compositions and his music has been performed and recorded throughout the world. He has received commissions from Radio-Canada, the CBC, the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, Monaco Cathedral, and various professional musicians in Canada, England, France, Switzerland and the U.S. Since September 2001 he has been organist and music director at Holy Rosary Cathedral in Vancouver.

The annual RCCO Members’ Recital will take place at Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church (2733 W 41st Ave, Vancouver, at Yew, lots of free parking behind the church) on Saturday, May 25 at 7 pm.

Performers will include Sam Balden, Michael Dirk, Frank Ezinga, Cindy Leung, Huiyan Ma, Michael Molnar, Susan and Paul Ohannesian, and David Poon.

Our 2012-2013 season finale is a stunning potpourri of concerti for organ, oboes and violin. The first works of their kind, Handel’s organ concerti greatly influenced later writing for the instrument. PBO Artistic Director Alexander Weimann’s treatment of these revolutionary compositions will be extraordinary.There’s one performance only – we hope you’ll join us!

West Vancouver United Church’s custom-designed and -built organ by Washington maker Martin Pasi weighs approximately eight tons. Although the case and tonal design of the organ are reminiscent of historical Dutch and North German instruments, the aim was to create a modern instrument capable of playing a wide range of musical repertoire, and performing a wide variety of accompaniment and solo functions.

PBO Artistic Director Alexander Weimann is one of the most sought-after ensemble directors, soloists, and chamber music partners of his generation. He has traveled the world as a member of the ensemble Tragicomedia; as a frequent guest of ensembles such as Les Boréades, Cantus Cölln, Freiburger Barockorchester, Tafelmusik, and the Gesualdo Consort; and as musical director of Les Voix Baroques and Le Nouvel Opéra. Weimann was born in 1965 in Munich, where he studied the organ, church music, musicology, theatre, medieval Latin, and jazz piano. After some years in Berlin, he now spends as much time as possible with his family — which so far includes three children as well as several pets — in his adopted home, Montreal, and is active in both his kitchen and his garden.

The return of our Annual Halloween Member’s Recital draws near!
Costumes, spooky organ music, bad jokes, wacky decorations, and fun seasonal facts approach rapidly!

This year it will be on Saturday evening, October the 26th
at St. Andrew’s-Wesley downtown (Burrard and Nelson), so mark the date!

Denis Bedard has given recitals across Canada, in the United States, in France and in Brazil and also pursues an international career as a composer.  He has written over a hundred and twenty compositions and his music is performed and recorded throughout the world. He has received commissions from Radio-Canada, the CBC, the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Canadian College of Organists, the Victoria Scholars in Toronto, the Laudate Singers, Monaco Cathedral, and various professional musicians in Canada, England, France, Switzerland and the U.S.

Rachel Alflatt has given concerts throughout the province of Quebec, as well as in Ontario, New Brunswick, and British Columbia.  She has also performed with the West Coast Symphony Orchestra and the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra and has recorded for the CBC’s French network, Radio-Canada FM.  She is organist and music director at Queen’s Avenue United Church.

For the third consecutive year, St. John’s Vancouver is presenting their long-established Brass and Organ Concert at Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church.  This allows St. John’s organist Terry Fullerton to utilize the fine Casavant pipe organ at Kerrisdale.  Terry is joined by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet for some sparkling, seasonal music, witty banter from the brass players, and a few singalong carols thrown in for good measure.
Get into the Christmas spirit with these fine musicians.  The church has a great acoustic for brass instruments, and there is plenty of seating available on the main floor and in the balcony.
