The annual Royal Canadian College of Organists, Vancouver Centre, Members’ Recital is coming up on Saturday 28 May at 7pm at St. Mary’s Kerrisale Anglican Church, 2490 West 37th Avenue at Larch Street in Vancouver.
Admission is by donation and there will be a reception and sale of used organ music after the recital in the Parish Hall. The performers are organists Haruyo Abramson, Tamar Genossar, Cindy Leung, Cindy Ma, Gail Ovington, Susan Ohannesian and flautist Laurie Kienlen. They will be playing music by J.S. Bach, Denis Bédard, Michael Blais, Michel Blavet, Henry Coleman, César Franck, Johann Pachelbel, Stephen Smith and Antonio Vivialdi.
Organ Crawl in North and West Vancouver. 10:00a.m. – 3:00p.m. Starting at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (1110 Gladwin Dr, North Vancouver), followed by St. Catherine’s Anglican Church (1058 Ridgewood Dr, North Vancouver), then lunch (details to be determined) in the Dunderave village area (around Marine Drive between 24th and 25th, West Vancouver), and ending at West Vancouver United Church (2062 Esquimalt Ave, West Vancouver). Once again, it is time for the Vancouver Centre to gather for our Annual General Meeting. This is where you, our membership, get to help decide what we will do in the coming year. Following the successful pattern we adopted last year, we will meet at a church, this time St. Mary’s Kerrisdale (2490 W 37th Ave) on Sunday August 21st at 3:00p.m.
Pizza and Sushi will be ordered for dinner afterwards, with partial funds covered through the RCCO (as always, bringing a small snack or light dessert item to share is welcome).
For those who missed out on the music sale after the member’s recital, there will be an opportunity to buy some quality music at very low prices.
Member-at-Large Michael Dirk will offer sailing before and after (from ~12:00p.m.-2:30p.m. and ~6:00p.m.-8:30p.m.) for those who want to spend some time on the water. Seats are limited, so confirm with him which times you are available, if interested (mjdirk@hotmail.com).

2 Trumpets (actually, many trumpets!) and Organ (and piano!)
Trumpeters Katherine Evans and Christopher Robertson present duos and solos with Darryl Nixon, organist, at St. Andrew’s-Wesley Church, Vancouver. Old favourites and surprises, including a world premiere: Handel, Copland, Elgar, Purcell, Clarke, Monroe, Perkins.
Holy Rosary Cathedral organist Denis Bedard will be joined by organist Rachel Alflatt in a programme of duets, solos and transcriptions by Haydn, Schubert, Franck, Bedard and others, including the monumental Sonata for organ duet by German Romantic composer Gustav Merkel. This performance will be projected on a giant screen at the front of the church.
Laureate of the CBC Radio Talent Competition in 1978, Denis Bedard has given recitals in the Americas and Europe. His compositions are performed and recorded throughout the world and he has received many commissions from professional musicians in North America and Europe and public institutions such as the CBC and the Quebec Symphony Orchestra.
Rachel Alflatt has given concerts throughout the province of Quebec, as well as in Ontario, New Brunswick, and British Columbia. She has also performed with the West Coast Symphony Orchestra and the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra and has recorded for the CBC’s French network, Radio-Canada FM. She is organist and music director at Queen’s Avenue United Church.

The Vancouver Bach Choir, under the direction of Les Dala, presents the timeless classic Requiem by Fauré and the ineffable Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen with soloists Kathleen Allan and Geoffrey Schellenberg; Darryl Nixon at the organ.

This concert will take place directly after the 10:30am Remembrance Day Service, and there will be a light lunch in the Parish Hall afterwards.
Proceeds will benefit PWRDF, the world relief and development agency of the Anglican church of Canada
